First Missionary Baptist Church

Deacons

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. – I Timothy 3:8-10

As set forth in the New Testament, the Deacon is to be a servant of the church. As such, he is to serve with the Pastor and staff in performing ministry tasks; Deacons shall endeavor to promote peace, harmony and the spirit of cooperation among church members. Deacons minister to the needs of the widows, the sick and other members who are in special need. Deacons shall assist in the preparation and serving the Lord’s Supper, including taking it to the sick and shut-in members as directed by the Pastor. A Deacon shall act as an advisor and assist the Pastor in advancing the general interest of the church.
